概念模型

Make the next design decision tangible.

Turn your design direction into a physical model that people can see, compare and evaluate.

Concept model variants

GPT Precision manufactures custom concept models for form, proportion, color, finish and presentation reviews. From early form studies to detailed appearance models, we help define the appropriate level of representation, manufacturing approach and finishing requirements around your project goals.

Share your CAD files, sketches or visual references to discuss the model, the decisions it needs to support and the scope of work.

Start with What You Need to Evaluate

A concept model turns a design idea into something people can examine together. It helps teams compare alternatives, gather feedback and agree on a direction before investing in further development.

The right model is not necessarily the most detailed one. Its value comes from representing the features that matter to the decision.

Form & Proportion

Evaluate shape, scale and overall design relationships.

Compare silhouettes, major volumes, proportions and spatial relationships. Full-size models can support physical evaluations of grip, reach and overall presence, while scale models help communicate larger products or equipment.

Color, Material & Finish

Explore appearance before committing to a direction.

Compare colors, textures, gloss levels and visual material effects. Specify which surfaces must closely represent the intended appearance and where substitute materials or simplified details are acceptable.

Presentation & Stakeholder Feedback

Make design options easier to communicate.

Use physical models for internal reviews, stakeholder presentations, user feedback, exhibitions or photography. The intended audience and handling conditions help determine the required level of detail and finish.

A concept model supports design evaluation. It does not, by itself, validate mechanical strength, product durability or production readiness.

Choose the Right Level of Representation

Different design stages require different levels of detail. GPT Precision reviews the model's intended use, geometry and appearance requirements to help define an appropriate manufacturing scope.

Form & Scale Models

Focus on shape, size and proportion.

These models emphasize the overall geometry and physical presence of a design. Fine details, surface textures, colors and internal construction may be simplified when they are not essential to the review.

Common uses: Early form comparisons, ergonomic discussions, spatial studies and large-product scale models.

Appearance model

Appearance Models

Represent the visual qualities that matter.

Appearance models focus on visible surfaces, color, texture, gloss, graphics and selected assembly details. They help teams evaluate the intended visual character of a product without requiring every internal feature to function.

Common uses: CMF evaluation, exterior design approval, marketing preparation and photography.

Presentation model

Presentation & Display Models

Communicate a design in its intended setting.

Presentation models combine agreed appearance requirements with display or demonstration features. Depending on feasibility, these may include removable sections, simple opening features or lighting effects.

Common uses: Exhibitions, stakeholder demonstrations, product presentations and display photography.

These are illustrative model types, not fixed manufacturing grades. A project may combine features from more than one category.

From Design Files to a Physical Model

A successful model starts with clear design priorities. Geometry, 材料, manufacturing methods and finishing must work together to support the intended review.

Edges, seams & surface finish

Define the Important Details

Identify the surfaces and features that reviewers will judge.

These may include exterior contours, visible edges, corner radii, seams, panel gaps, graphics and areas that will be handled or viewed at close range.

Distinguish appearance-critical details from features that can be simplified.

Confirm Geometry and Scale

Provide current CAD data, key dimensions or visual references.

Specify whether the model must be full size or built at a reduced scale. For scale models, identify which gaps, thin sections, textures or small features need adjustment to remain practical and visually meaningful.

If the supplied information requires additional 3D geometry development, the scope must be agreed before fabrication.

Select the Manufacturing Approach

Match the process to the model's geometry, finish and intended use.

Depending on project requirements, potential manufacturing routes include:

  • 3D Printing: For suitable complex shapes, design iterations and model geometries.
  • CNC Machining: For suitable metal or plastic parts requiring defined geometry, surfaces or assembly features.
  • Vacuum Casting: For applicable resin model components and small sets of similar parts.
  • Combined Processes: When different components benefit from different fabrication methods.

The final route depends on size, geometry, material requirements, quantity and finishing scope. Manufacturing feasibility and process selection are confirmed through project review.

Agree on Appearance and Acceptance

Establish how the finished model will be evaluated.

Provide color references, texture requirements, gloss expectations and relevant samples. Identify the most important surfaces and any cosmetic details that require particular attention.

Pantone or RAL codes can guide color discussions, but the final appearance also depends on the substrate, texture, gloss and viewing conditions. Where close visual matching matters, agree on suitable physical references and acceptance criteria.

Compare Options. Agree on a Direction.

Concept models are particularly useful when several design alternatives need to be evaluated together.

Side-by-side CMF comparison

Compare Like with Like

Review shortlisted forms, colorways or finishes side by side.

Keep scale, lighting and evaluation criteria consistent wherever possible. Label each model with its design revision and variant so reviewers can clearly identify the differences.

Organize Feedback and Revisions

Bring design, engineering and presentation stakeholders into a defined review.

Consolidate comments into a marked-up change list, separating changes to geometry, appearance and demonstration features. Confirm whether the requested changes involve refinishing, rework or a new model build before proceeding.

Keep a Physical or Visual Reference

Once a design direction is selected, record the approved revision, appearance references and any outstanding changes.

Approval photographs and a retained physical sample may provide useful references for subsequent development.

Where the model will be transported, photographed or handled repeatedly, consider whether separate display and handling samples are needed.

Approval of a concept model confirms the agreed design representation. Production materials, manufacturing tolerances and functional performance require their own specifications and validation.

What to Include in Your Enquiry

The more clearly the model's purpose is defined, the easier it is to review the manufacturing scope and expected result.

常见问题

Can you make a concept model from sketches or renders?

Sketches, renders and reference images can be used for an initial discussion. Please include key dimensions and any available 3D data. If additional geometry creation or refinement is required, its feasibility, scope and cost will be reviewed separately before fabrication.

How closely can a concept model match the intended color and finish?

The achievable match depends on the selected model material, surface preparation, finishing method and reference standard. Provide Pantone or RAL references, physical samples or detailed appearance specifications where available. Critical colors, textures and gloss levels should be reviewed against agreed conditions.

Can a concept model include moving parts or lighting?

Simple opening features, removable sections and lighting demonstrations may be considered where suitable. Describe the intended demonstration and how viewers will interact with it. Such features do not, by themselves, establish mechanism durability, electrical compliance or production performance.

Can an appearance model be used for functional testing?

Not automatically. Concept and appearance models are primarily intended for design evaluation. If the project requires load testing, impact resistance, thermal performance, sealing or repeated operation, a functional prototype with suitable materials, construction and test criteria should be defined separately.

Can you make a scale model of large equipment?

Scale models can be considered for larger products or equipment where a full-size model would be impractical. Specify the desired scale, important design details and display requirements. Some thin sections, gaps and surface features may need simplification or adjustment.

Can the same model be used for design review, exhibition and photography?

This may be possible depending on its construction, finish and handling requirements. Repeated handling or transport can affect visible surfaces. For projects requiring both frequent handling and a pristine presentation reference, separate copies may be worth considering.
