Two Ways to Work With Us

Complete injection moldPhotography pending · 4:3

Complete Injection Molds

For customers who need a mold for production at their own facility.

We manufacture the mold, carry out trials and provide samples for customer review. After sample approval and the agreed acceptance checks, the mold is prepared for shipment.

The tooling review covers the target molding machine, mold dimensions, cavity arrangement, mold construction and required documentation.

Finished molded componentsPhotography pending · 4:3

Finished Plastic Components

For customers who need molded parts supplied to their drawings.

The project can include mold manufacture, trials, plastic-part production, finishing, assembly and inspection. Critical dimensions, cosmetic surfaces and assembly requirements guide the sampling and production process.

For molded-part projects, the quotation defines the proposed mold-life target in production cycles. Mold construction, selected steel, resin characteristics and agreed maintenance conditions are considered when establishing the tooling requirements.

Review the Design Before Cutting Steel

Part geometry influences mold construction, material flow, cooling and ejection. Reviewing these relationships early helps identify manufacturing concerns while retaining the features essential to the finished part's function and appearance.

Wall Thickness & Transitions

Review wall sections, thickness changes and internal radii for potential filling, shrinkage, sink marks and warpage.

Identify where geometry adjustments could improve molding consistency without compromising the required part function.

Draft & Undercuts

Evaluate draft angles, release direction and undercuts alongside the required part features.

These details influence side actions, ejection methods, mold complexity and tooling cost.

Ribs, Bosses & Assembly Features

Consider reinforcing ribs, mounting bosses, snap fits and locating features together with the surrounding walls and mating components.

Feature dimensions and their relationships influence molding behavior, assembly fit and functional performance.

Gates, Parting Lines & Cosmetic Faces

Plan gate positions, parting lines and ejector locations around visible surfaces and critical interfaces.

Coordinate texture, polish and acceptable molding marks with the mold design before tooling manufacture.

Engineering priority: Identify critical dimensions, datums, mating interfaces and cosmetic surfaces before tooling begins. Tolerance feasibility is reviewed against the selected resin, part geometry and intended function.

Match the Mold to Your Production Needs

Tooling investment should reflect the design's maturity, initial order quantity and expected demand.

Mold construction, cavity count, resin requirements and molding-machine compatibility are evaluated together to establish an appropriate production approach.

Tooling ApproachIntended UseMain Considerations
Prototype ToolingMolded samples and early design evaluationTrial quantities, material requirements, design flexibility and initial tooling investment
Bridge ToolingInitial orders or an interim production requirementNear-term demand, required tool life and the transition to ongoing production
Production ToolingEstablished designs with recurring production demandCavity configuration, durability, consistent output, maintenance and expected production life

The appropriate tooling arrangement is determined by the project requirements. Prototype and bridge tooling are evaluated where applicable and do not automatically imply availability for every order quantity.

Plan the Cavity Arrangement

Single-Cavity Molds

Produce one part per cycle. A single-cavity arrangement may be suitable when a simpler mold construction meets the required output and part specifications.

Multi-Cavity Molds

Produce multiple copies of the same component per cycle. Cavity balance, filling consistency and the required production output are considered during mold design.

Family Molds

Produce different related components within the same molding cycle. Part geometry, material compatibility, filling behavior and the required quantity of each component influence the suitability of a shared mold.

Mold Life & Maintenance

The proposed mold-life target is established according to the mold construction, steel grade, resin, production requirements and anticipated maintenance conditions.

Tooling specifications and acceptance requirements are agreed as part of the project scope.

Explore Our Molding Processes

Different part requirements may call for different tooling arrangements, molding techniques or material combinations.

Cavity configuration, filling balance and production quantities guide tooling selection.

Metal threads, bushings, contacts and other inserts incorporated into a molded plastic body.

Tooling review addresses insert positioning, retention, dimensional relationships and exposed functional surfaces.

An additional material molded over a substrate to create grips, protective surfaces or other functional features.

Material compatibility, bonding or mechanical retention and interface design determine the appropriate construction.

Custom LSR components and complete LSR molds for applications with specified flexibility, sealing or temperature-performance requirements.

Material grade, part geometry, tooling design and acceptance requirements are evaluated for the intended application.

Common Materials & Mold Steels

Material selection connects the part's operating environment with its geometry, dimensional requirements, surface appearance and manufacturing conditions.

Plastic Materials

Material GroupCommon Materials
General-Purpose PlasticsABS, PP, PMMA
Engineering ThermoplasticsPC, POM, PBT, PA66, PET
High-Performance ThermoplasticsPPS, PEI, PEEK

The specific resin grade, fillers, additives and color are reviewed against the component's operating conditions, mechanical requirements, geometry and intended use.

Processing suitability and equipment requirements are confirmed for the selected material and grade.

Additional material consideration: PTFE may be supplied through a separately evaluated manufacturing route. It is not processed through conventional thermoplastic injection molding.

Mold Steels

Commonly considered mold steels include:

P20 · ASSAB 718/718H · 8407 · NAK80 · H13 · S136 · 1.2738 · 1.2344

Mold steel selection takes account of the resin, tool construction, expected production life, surface requirements, wear resistance and maintenance considerations.

Specific steel grades, heat-treatment conditions and acceptable substitutions are confirmed against the agreed tooling specifications.

Surface Finish & Secondary Operations

Define the required texture, polish and color together with the visible and functional surfaces of the molded part.

Where applicable, provide SPI, VDI or other agreed surface-finish references. Identify acceptable locations for parting lines, gate evidence and ejector marks.

Include printing, marking, coating, joining or assembly requirements in the finished-part specification.

Physical reference samples can help establish appearance expectations when cosmetic consistency is important.

常见问题

Can I order a complete mold without ordering plastic parts?

Yes. We manufacture complete injection molds for customers who intend to operate them at their own production facilities.

Mold-only projects can include mold manufacture, trials, sample evaluation and the agreed acceptance checks.

After customer approval, the accepted mold and specified documentation are prepared for shipment.

Is injection molding suitable for my order quantity?

Suitability depends on part geometry, tooling investment, material requirements, initial demand and expected repeat orders.

Share your anticipated quantities so we can review the mold size, cavity arrangement, production requirements and applicable minimum order quantity.

Prototype or bridge tooling may be evaluated for eligible projects, but smaller production quantities are not automatically available.

When is injection molding more economical than 3D printing or casting?

The comparison depends on tooling investment, recurring part cost, material requirements and total production demand.

For suitable designs with repeat orders, the initial tooling cost can be distributed across more components, making injection molding more economical over time.

For prototypes or designs that are still changing, a manufacturing process without dedicated injection tooling may be more appropriate.

What is a T1 sample?

T1 generally refers to samples produced during an early formal mold trial.

These samples help evaluate mold performance, dimensional characteristics, appearance and assembly fit.

T1 samples are not automatically approved production parts. Tooling adjustments, additional trials or further inspection may be required before customer approval.

Can you supply insert-molded or overmolded parts?

Yes. GPT Precision supports insert molding and overmolding projects.

Include the insert or substrate specifications, material requirements, critical interfaces and relevant functional requirements with your design.

These details guide the evaluation of tooling construction, positioning, retention and material compatibility.

How are tolerances and inspection requirements determined?

Dimensional requirements are reviewed against the drawing, selected resin, part geometry and intended function.

Critical dimensions, datums, inspection methods and acceptance criteria should be established before tooling manufacture.

Where required, sample inspection records and production inspection requirements are agreed with the customer.
